SCHEMERS F.A.Q.
  • WHY IS THE COMPANY CALLED "SCHEMERS"? ARE YOU GUYS A BUNCH OF JERKS?
No matter your best intentions, you will always be the villain of someone's story. That said, yes, we understand the word "schemers" often has a negative connotation. In short, here is our company definition to convey our positive spin on the term: "A consortium of trusted, likeminded, industry-savvy individuals working together ("scheming," if you will) to achieve our collective entertainment goals."
  • WHAT TYPES OF CREATIVES DOES THE COMPANY REPRESENT?
Mostly writers and directors, though we will branch out if the right strategic opportunity arises.
  • HOW DO I BECOME A SCHEMERS CLIENT?
We generally do not like the term "client.” On the management side, we tend to view our company more like a sports team -- we are the coaches, "clients" are the players -- and everyone has a role to play in pursuit of a championship (think the Phil Jackson / Michael Jordan dynamic). So how do you become a player on Team Schemers? 1 - Be talented. 2 - Be knowledgeable. 3 - Be coachable. 4 - Be a team player. 5 - Deliver.
  • DOES THE COMPANY ACCEPT UNSOLICITED MATERIAL?
    No.
  • HOW DO YOU TYPICALLY COME ACROSS CLIENTS AND PROJECTS?
Most often via formal industry submissions and professional recommendations. In many cases, we also proactively discover the clients and projects we want to build / work with.
  • IS DIVERSITY IMPORTANT TO THE COMPANY?
Absolutely, though we do not make decisions based on quotas. We make decisions on a case-by-case, project-by-project, person-by-person basis, with strategic thinking, collaboration, and fairness being valued above all else. We believe in giving opportunities to and working with good and talented individuals, no matter their skin color, nationality, gender identity, or sexual orientation.
  • DO YOU GUYS PRODUCE YOUR CLIENTS' PROJECTS?
    Sometimes.
  • HOW INVOLVED ARE YOU IN PROJECT / SCRIPT DEVELOPMENT?
Very. We are here to strategically build our clients, not peddle flights of fancy.
  • DO YOU ALSO WORK WITH UP-AND-COMING TALENT?
When they are a good fit. A number of our clients (arguably some of our most talented) are not listed publicly, as they are in the building phases of their careers. For us to take on an up-and-comer, they must demonstrate a high degree of talent, maintain viable taste and a comprehensive understanding of the business, and have the right attitude (i.e. be driven and coachable).
  • MY CREATIVE WORKS JUST WON A BUNCH OF CONTESTS AND/OR PLACED HIGH ON SEVERAL "BEST OF" INDUSTRY LISTS. DOES THIS MOVE THE NEEDLE FOR YOU GUYS?
Not always. These things usually speak to technical ability but not the additional qualities we seek in clients, namely commercial taste and coachable-ness.
  • I AM A DRIVEN, TALENTED CREATOR WITH VIABLE TASTE AND A CONFIDENT YET HUMBLE SPIRIT. DOES THIS MOVE THE NEEDLE FOR YOU GUYS?
More so than any contest win or placement on an often-politicized "Best Of" list.
  • WHAT IS "COMFORT FOOD MEDIA"?
A sibling company of Schemers Entertainment focused more so on family-oriented content ("homestyle entertainment"). SITE COMING SOON
  • WHAT IS "SCHEMERS: GATEWAY"?
An online platform allowing non-clients to connect directly with select members of the Schemers team. SITE COMING SOON
  • CHECKERS OR CHESS?
    Chess.
